PSCombine: Computer Assisted Art

I've posted the first version of my image randomizer program, I like to think of it as "Computer Assisted Art".

http://4volt.com/projects/PSCombine/

If you have any issues installing or using the program, email me, or post a message here.

Update: I've released version 1.0.4 that solves some incompatibility issues with Photoshop CS3. If you previously were having issues and were running CS3, download and install 1.0.4.

I wasn't sure where to post this. I really like the premise of the program, but I'm having trouble using it with CS4. It wont export files because : " general photoshop error occurred. This functionality may not be available in this version of Photoshop - could not save a copy as " because the file could not be found. "

Hi Will,

I wasn't able to replicate your problem with my version of CS4, can you check the "Write Log" option on and send me the resulting text file? It will appear in your specified output folder.

When running PS Combine I get a an error that forces the app to close (send message to MS).

Using VS 08 as the debugger I see this error message:
Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {6568E194-96D8-4035-9087-99E4F75E9ABC} failed due to the following error: 80040154.

I Googled the error message and found a compile settings suggestion and possible solution (bottom of the thread), change from any CPU to x86:
social.msdn.microsoft.com/.../b20d3e7d-0577-44a...
May have nothing to do with the problem...

I'd love to give your app a drive but she won't start just yet for me. ;)

Pointing to a folder that contains two JPEG photos, running Windows XP Pro 32Bit, with Photoshop CS3 installed.

I checked the "write log" option but a file is not created; the app's log tab shows one line "Added 2 files"

If you are interested in troubleshooting let me know if there is any other information you need.

I tried the old version first and had problems.

The new version 1.01 is better but I still can't get it to run.

It fails for me right after "Trying to create link to photoshop"
"error creating link to photoshop, the program cannot continue: System.runtime.interopservices.comexception.....
"Photoshop Com may not be registered try running the registerinterop.bat file in your folder.

I run that bat file and what I get is : "RegSvr32", "C:\program files\4volt\pscombine\interop.photoshoptypelibrary.dll was loaded, but the dllregisterserver entry point was not found. This file can not be registered.

I get that same response when I go into a commandline and try to run regsvr32 on either of them.

My system is a xp media center, 32 bit.

I applaud your patience and this application looks like a lot of fun.

Sorry about the double post there.

I hit F5 to try to get a new comment box and ended up posting it again.

SUCCESS!
I monkeyed a bit with the project on my computer. I am happy to zip up the app and code as I got it working and send it off.

Gory details, mostly:
I opened your project up in 2005 visual studio, deleted a hanging photoshopinterop reference, opened up the *.vbproj file and set these two lines to false :<GenerateManifests>false</GenerateManifests>
<SignManifests>false</SignManifests>

I removed the *.pfx file from the references, made a copy of the *.ico file and called it "Psc-Icon.ico", copied your *.config file into app.config and was able to compile it. It worked on the first try.

So far the pics look interesting but I really believe you when you say it takes a lot to get a good one. I'm going to set it up for a huge run and let it go.

Here is the re-compiled version. This compiled version may have a better chance of working for some people.

I did some testing to make sure this would work on a machine other than the xp box with the compiler on it. This is tested to work with xp media center and vista home premium.

Download:

unzip and run.

Thanks to 4volt for creating this spiffy program.
